WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – Caleb Swanigan scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Purdue (16-4, 5-2) past Penn State (11-9, 3-4), 77-52.
The Boilermakers grabbed an early lead in Mackey Arena and never looked back. Thanks to an 8-9 start from the field and some lock-down defense, Purdue jumped out to a 20-7 lead.
Penn State would rally to pull within four points at 24-20, but that was as close as it got the rest of the way. The Boilermakers used a 13-0 run to extend their lead to 37-20 capped by a Carsen Edwards and-one. Purdue took a 41-23 lead into halftime.
It was much of the same for the Boilermakers in the second half. They used an early 8-2 run to expand their lead to 51-25. Penn State never got within 20 points after that. Purdue finished with a 77-52 victory capped by two late baskets and a block from Grady Eifert.
Penn State was led by Josh Reaves with 12 points but shot just 31.3% as a team for the game.
